FluoSurf is an emulsion stabilizer in fluorinated oil specifically formulated for droplet-based microfluidic applications, such as single-cell analysis. Biocompatible, it is highly stable even with pH or temperature variations, allowing the production of reproducible droplets.
FluoSurf surfactant comes diluted in the well-known HFE 7500 or FC-40 fluorinated oil, commonly used for aqueous droplet generation in microfluidics, but also the new Fluo-Oil 135 and Fluo-Oil 200.
Available in 10 mL, 50 mL, or 100 mL bottles, with a concentration of 2% w/w, 4% w/w, or 5% w/w.
General
FluoSurf-C was formulated for microfluidic applications involving droplets. Its properties allow it to be used in demanding applications where biocompatibility and stability are essential requirements (PCR, encapsulation...). The ambiphilic properties of FluoSurf-C surfactant stabilize the interface between aqueous droplets and oil to generate reproducible droplets with a high monodispersity, avoiding leaks and coalescence.
Comparison with other surfactants
- FluoSurf-C: Former classic FluoSurf, same formulation.
- FluoSurf-O: Ultra-low autofluorescence. Recommended for fluorescence detection, even at low concentrations.
- FluoSurf-S: Low molecular weight. Recommended for high-frequency droplet generation, for ddPCR application, and with viscous aqueous solutions. Not recommended with dyes due to possible cross-contamination.
Each bottle contains FluoSurf-C at a concentration of 2% w/w, 4% w/w, or 5% w/w in Fluo-Oil 7500, Fluo-Oil 40, Fluo-Oil 135, or Fluo-Oil 200 fluorinated oil.
Tip: the surfactant concentration can be adjusted by diluting it with the adapted fluorinated oil.
Applications
FluoSurf surfactant is performant for standard droplet generation in microfluidics, but also for more demanding applications involving biology or chemistry:
- Water-in-oil droplet generation
- Single-cell analysis
- Cell sorting
- Encapsulation
- Alginate/polyacrylate/agarose/epoxy beads
- PCR
- 3D cell culture in droplet
